【摘要】:Cyanideandhydrogencyanidearehighlytoxic.Regulationshavebeenestablishedtorequirethemonitoringofcyanideinindustrialanddomesticwastesandsurfacewaters.3ItisusefultodeterminetheaquaticfreecyanidetoestablishanindexoftoxicitywhenawastewaterisintroducedtothepHandtemperatureofthenaturalenvironment.Thistestmethodisapplicablefornaturalwater,salinewaters,andwastewatereffluent.1.1Thistestmethodisusedtoestablishtheconcentrationofaquatic"free"cyanideinanaqueouswastewateroreffluent.Thetestconditionsofthismethodareusedtomeasurefreecyanide(HCNandCN-)andcyanideboundinthemetal-cyanidecomplexesthatareeasilydissociatedintofreecyanideionsatthepHoftheaquaticenvironmentrangingfrompH6topH8.TheextentofHCNformationislessdependentontemperaturethanthepH;however,thetemperaturecanberegulatedifdeemednecessarytofurthersimulatetheactualaquaticenvironment.1.2TheaquaticfreecyanidemethodisbasedonthesameinstrumentationandtechnologythatisdescribedinstandardtestmethodD6888,butemploysmilderconditions(pH6-8bufferversusHClinthereagentstream),anddoesnotutilizeliganddisplacementreagents.1.3TheaquaticfreecyanidemeasuredbythisprocedureshouldbesimilartoactuallevelsofHCNintheoriginalaquaticenvironment.Thisinturnmaygiveareliableindexoftoxicitytoaquaticorganisms.1.4Thisprocedureisapplicableoverarangeofapproximately2to500g/L(partsperbillion)aquaticfreecyanide.Sampledilutionmayincreasecyaniderecoveriesdependingonthecyanidespeciation;therefore,itisnotrecommendedtodilutesamples.Higherconcentrationscanbeanalyzedbyincreasingtherangeofcalibrationstandardsorwithalowerinjectionvolume.InaccordancewithGuideE1763andPracticeD6512thelowerscopelimitwasdeterminedtobe9g/Lforchlorinatedgoldleachingbarreneffluentwater.Thisstandarddoesnotpurporttoaddressallofthesafetyconcerns,ifany,associatedwithitsuse.Itistheresponsibilityoftheuserofthisstandardtoestablishappropriatesafetyandhealthpracticesanddeterminetheapplicabilityofregulatorylimitationspriortouse.SpecifichazardstatementsaregiveninSectionandSection.
