【摘要】:1.1Thisspecificationdescribestheperformanceofpolytetrafluoroethylene(PTFE)fabricatedinsheet,tube,androdshapeswhichmaybeusedforsurgicalimplants.PTFEisamemberofthegenericclassofperfluorocarbon(containingonlytheelementsfluorineandcarbon)polymers.1.2Perfluorocarbonhighpolymersaresolidsexhibitingextraordinarythermalandchemicalstability.Theydonotrequirestabilizingadditivesofanykind.1.3ThebiologicalresponsetoPTFEinsofttissueandbonehasbeenwellcharacterizedbyahistoryofclinicaluseandanimalstudies(1-9).1.4Thisspecificationdoesnotapplytospecificsurgicalimplants.Suchimplantswouldbesubjecttoappropriateend-useperformancestandards.
